Rotary Boreholes
Rotary drilling techniques are frequently requested by our clients where boreholes are required in very dense gravel or bedrock. Samples of bedrock are recovered in seamless plastic tubes for subsequent logging by the Engineer and sub-sampled for laboratory testing.
We employ the use of several rotary coring rigs including a Fraste Terra-In, Comacchio M205s’, Berretta T44s’ and two Lorry Mounted Rigs (suitable for deep borehole drilling). Our drilling rigs can also obtain continuous samples of soils using dynamic sampling equipment. We also operate rigs that are suitable for limited access works.
Borehole installations, such as gas & water monitoring wells, piezometers and inclonometers can be constructed on completion of the borehole on the client’s request.
Capabilities of the Rotary Drilling include:-
- Rotary Core Drill and case sizes from 76mm to 100mm diameter;
- Rotary window sample from 76mm to 100mm diameter;
- SPT's & CPT's;
- Packer tests from 56 mm to 100 mm diameter;
- Falling Head permeability testing;
- Borehole Vane testing;
- Open Hole Drilling from 78mm to 200mm diameter;
- Simultaneous drilling and casing using either Odex 115mm or Symmetrix 151 mm diameter casing;
- Continuous Flight Augers - various sizes from 100mm to 200mm diameter;
- Flush using air, air-mist, water, foam, polymer; and
- All drillers are NVQ and CSCS certified.
